Here are some ideas:
Obviously, you can use them to store extra sets of sheets neatly in your linen closet, and keep them fresh and clean longer. I'd stick a dryer sheet in with them for scent.
They are also a good size for storing winter sweaters and other clothing that you bring out seasonally.
Would work well as travel bags - to pack shoes in your suitcase, so they don't touch your clothes. Or to pack cosmetics/tolietries. Or to pack underwear/socks.
Store children's toys with small pieces - if you have Legos or blocks laying around without a home, or other toys with a lot of small pieces, and you've lost the container.
Store craft projects, like knitting, quilting, scrapbooking. Keep all the pieces to one project in one bag.What are some good uses for those clear plastic bags with the zipper that sheets come in?
I use them to store papers such as receipts for filing income taxes. You can also use them to store photos before you get time to put them into photo albums.
If you have excess cosmetics or hair appliances they can be stored in these bags and then slip them under your bed to save space.
I use them for storing sheets out of season. And recently I found one that fits my waffle iron perfectly. I don't use the waffle iron much so it would collect a lot of dust if it wasn't covered.

Local hardwear shops will probably have them, try Macs Tools on Newland Ave.
Knowing waht a cheapskate you are, why not just beg one of the big plastic bags a settee or a bed come in, plenty of furniture shops nearby.
And you are either lazy of a fibber, there is a big B%26amp;Q on Clough Road, if it has not burnt down again by the time you walk there.Which shops (in UK) sell plastic dust sheets ?
BQ, wicks, home base ,they don't have to be near you try there web sites on line, may be able to get them delivered, have used the plastic sheets they just about cover a double bed, cheap and very very thin and rip easy, best to go for Cotton dust sheets cost a bit more but will last for ever, just finnish decorating the cotton sheets were good and I can use them again and again well worth the extra cash

A word of caution. Don't use plastic on the floor or stairs as people slip on them. Use cloth. Plastic is ideal for covering furniture etc. as it is light and doesn't pull things over and you can still see where everything is.

The closest thing I've seen to plastic perf business cards for inkjet would be the magnetic sheets. They run through the printer and you just pop them out afterward. The surface may still be paper, but the backing is a flexible, magnetic plastic. Just a thought. There are so many specialty papers out now. Avery is a good brand with some versatility. Also, the photo brands (kodak, epson, HP...) have a pretty good selection of creative options too.

I want to build a light box out of plastic. Where can I get sheets of semi-transparent acrylic?
What I want to build is a cube made out of semi-transparent acrylic sheets with a lightbulb ballast screwed down to the floor of the cube and the electrical cord leading out. This will look really cool because it will be a soft white light cube that can be used even as a side table. I don't know where to get the acrylic sheets or how to attach them to each other. home depot would have the parts you need for this. use flouresant light covers, cut four of them into squares, if it is really opaque you can hotglue the edges together. its simple, these were really popular on HGTV type shows like 3 years ago, they made them all the time. simple project, highly effective, i wouldn't be surprised if you could find one at a store like IKEA, already made.

The plastic sheeting serves as a vapor barrier, and is needed only if your house is in a region where outside temperatures drop below freezing. The principle is that air inside of the house has moisture--from your breathing, from cooking, from the bathroom, and from your humidifier. Without the vapor barrier, the moisture will get into your insulation, which has a temperature gradient with the inside surface at room temperature and the outside surface below freezing. At some point within the insulation the moisture will freeze and ice will accumulate. This not only reduces the effectiveness of the insulation, but makes for a large problem in the spring when the ice melts.
You can see that the vapor barrier should be against the inside wall, so that moisture can't get in the insulation. If you insulate your floor, the vapor barrier must go up. That is why it is best to use faced insulation, with the face up. If you are insulating ove a dirt floor then the vapor barrier would face the unfinished part of the crawl space.

If you are insulating a ground level or below grade floor you need to build a frame from 2x2 strips and then fill in the spaces with styrofoam about 2 inces thick then lay wooden sheeting over the strips then nail the sheets to the 2x2 strips (which are anchored to the floor using tapcon anchors). No plastic is needed.
peeps are right about the insulation that has vapor barrier already on it.. barrier goes towards the room.. you do not use plastic if it already has the paper face on it.. double barrier is a nono. as the other said if its a crawl space put plastic down on the dirt/gravel
Yes The vapor bearier faces outside away from any subtstrates or wood.It keeps moisture from getting the insulation wet and helps stop rotting should the insulation get wet. I would use a heavy mil thickness on your plastic. I have done this projest, Not fun, but well worth it. Also there are wire hangers you can use to hold op the insulation, speeds up the process. Good Luck!

BEFORE you do the floor, is there plenty of insulation above your ceiling? I think there is where the payback for your effort and cost will be faster. Insulation above keeps winter heating in and in summer keeps summer heat out. Insulating a floor -- IMHO -- is much less important. I wouldn't even consider it unless there is an open crawl space under the floor and winter temps frequently stayed below freezing. (What region of the world is the house?)
